
Sending Requests to the Joint Library
The JL's Document Delivery Team can accept requests by e-mail, internal mail, or fax. We deliver up to 3 items per-patron-per-day and send replies concerning the status of each request if there will be a delay in delivery. All e-mail requests are picked up four times per day and processed continuously. Items are sent out or responses are made within 48 hours. Requests can be made for individual books, working papers, and journal articles, as well as for general information, database searches, or other research.
Research requests, including database searches, and requests for information are handled by the professional staff of the Research and Information Team.
Urgent requests (items needed within three hours) should be directed to the Reference Desk by phone at 623-7054.
Bank staff :
Use Lotus Notes to send a message to the account name Joint Library.
To add the "Library Services" database icon to your Lotus Notes Desktop:
- From the Notes Windows menu select: File/Database/Open
- Open drop-down list for Window marked Server
- Select server: WBLN0011
- Select Folder called Request Services
- Select the Library Services icon

Loan
Periods
- Books and Working Papers: 4 weeks (2 weeks if needed by another staff member);
renewable up to 5 times- Journals & Newspapers: 1 week; not renewable (current year issues are for use in library only)
All library materials except interlibrary loans may be returned via inter-office mail. Books borrowed from other libraries should be returned to the JL in person.
Reference
Queries: We can help find answers to simple questions as well as provide more in-depth research. Please send requests by e-mail if possible; we will call you if we need to discuss your research.
Database Searching: In addition to JOLIS and the CD-Link, librarians can search hundreds of other databases on a wide range of topics to assist you in your work. We have accounts with Knight Ridder - Dialog, Nexis, and Dow Jones News/Retrieval.
Document
Delivery & Interlibrary Loan
The Document Delivery Team can provide materials from our collections for loan. The Interlibrary Loan Service can obtain materials not owned by Bank and Fund Libraries through an extensive network of contacts with other libraries and commercial document suppliers.

Table of Contents Service for Electronic Journals
An electronic Table of Contents Service (TOC) is available for over 100 major economic journals. This is a web service with an alerting listserv to notify users of updates, usually on a weekly basis. Internet
Librarians can help you locate Internet sites to answer your questions or retrieve documents and reports. They can also help you find and use Internet search engines to locate Web sites from your office. Links to selected sites of interest to Bank and Fund staff are available on The Library Network Web under "Related Links".

Information
Information on hearings, bills, and reports is provided from CQ's Washington Alert, Federal News Service, and Congressional Information Service online databases. An update service to track legislation and provide committee schedules is available.
United
Nations Information
Via access to the UNBIS database, we can provide citations to documents issued by UN offices in New York, Geneva, and Vienna, as well as information on materials issued by the regional economic commissions.

The online database listing materials in the Joint Bank-Fund Library Network, JOLIS includes references to books, conference proceedings, papers, and journal articles. JOLIS can be searched in any Network Library or directly from your desk using a World Wide Web browser such as Netscape. Information on desktop access and guides to searching are available from the Joint Library.

Databases
The Library Network Web site (http://jolis.worldbankimflib.org/) is the central access point to over 60 external databases provided by the Network for staff use. Databases cover a wide range of topics including sectoral and regional information and current news. Browse the database list by subject or title, or scan the list of databases with full-text articles.
Special
Collections
Bretton Woods File: A compilation of material relating to the histories, policies, and operations of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Sources are: newspapers, journals, news magazines, and speeches. Covers 1932 to the present.
Research Paper File: A collection of over 700 working papers series issued by universities and research centers throughout the world. Indexed on JOLIS from 1982 to the present.
European Union Documents: A comprehensive collection of EU documents including ComDocs in microfiche from 1983 to present and the complete Official Journal in microfiche from 1975 with the current year in paper. Access to EU databases is also provided.
United Nations Documents: The collection covers 1946 to present and includes documents issued by the principal UN organs such as the General Assembly, the Secretariat, the Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council.
